An underwater perspective of the North Shore.

The Long Island Sound is the body of water situated between the North Shore of Long Island, both Nassau and Suffolk Counties, andthe southern coast of Connecticut.  The waters of the Long Island Sound wash up also on the Bronx and Westchester County.   Over 8 million people live within the watershed of the Long Island Sound, and several cities continue to expand along its coast.  On both Long Island and Connecticut, mansions and wealthy neighborhoods are quite the norm with unique geological characteristics making the natural landscape a thing of beauty.

There are inumerable watet activities on Long Island. Give kayaking a go!

Several freshwater rivers empty into the Sound, creating a special habitat for breeding fish and their young offspring, which also makes these waters excellent for fishing and clamming.  This saltwater estuary is also a seasonal home to migratory birds, making the region a bird watchers paradise.

Maritime activities have always been central to the culture of the residents who live near the Sound.  Many North Shore residents are boat owners, own a jetski or are frequent customers of the many boat rental companies of the North Shore.  The waters are calmer than the Atlantic and therefore more suitable for canoes and kayaks.
